Flash Floods has been experienced in the East Africa countries since mid-March 2018. The situation is getting severe by the day and Humanitarian crisis is looming with cases of fatalities, human deaths and displacement reported in all the three countries. The Meteorological department has sent an alarm that the rain will continue to June 2018. The severity and magnitude varies from country to country, and the humanitarian crisis requires urgent response. Overall, Islamic Relief will require a total of $2,000,000 to reach a total of 57,840 affected persons with Food, WASH and NFI over the next 4 to 6 Months starting May 2018 in the three countries
In Ethiopia, People in need of food during the year for the country was 7, 880,461 and out these 3,240,385 (41%) are found in the Somali Regional state and followed by Somali Regional state which is 1,799,679 (23%) where IR is operating.
In Afder zone continuous heavy rainfall and river overflows have caused flooding of the communities living around Web, Shabelle and Ganale rivers. Thousands of already vulnerable households have been affected. The floods washed away about 18 villages in 5 districts of Afder Zone Somali Region of Ethiopia
Islamic Relief Ethiopia does its relief and development interventions by collaborating with local communities and government organisations operating at different levels. It mobilises resources, builds partnerships and develops local capacity as it works to enable communities to mitigate the effect of disasters,prepare for their occurrence and respond by providing relief, protection and recovery. In additional to its internal donors, IRE has created partnerships among various institutional donors.
