IRE’s Ramadan Food Distribution Program 2025 Supports Thousands of Families Across Ethiopia
One of Islamic Relief’s flagship seasonal project "Ramadan Food Distribution Program 2025" is actively providing crucial support to fasting families in need across four regions of Ethiopia.
With a total budget of EUR 452,166 (ETB 58,029,401.86), the program aims to alleviate food insecurity during the holy month of Ramadan.
The initiative, which runs from February 1 to March 31, 2025, targets vulnerable communities in Addis Ababa, Afar's Yangudi district, Oromia's Meiso district, and the Somali Region, including Jigjiga and Hargele.
Assistance Breakdown
The program utilizes a dual assistance approach, combining cash transfers and in-kind food distribution. An overwhelming 95% of resources are allocated for cash support, directly benefitting 3,901 households across the operational areas. Each eligible household receives EUR 78 (ETB 9,715) to meet their dietary needs during Ramadan.
In addition, 532 food packs are distributed to households requiring in-kind assistance. Each pack contains essential food items, including 15 kg of soup cereal, 10 kg of rice, 5 kg of spaghetti, 3 kg of dates, 2 kg of coffee beans, 5 kg of sugar, and 5 liters of vegetable oil.
The food packs are distributed in two phases: 100 Ramadan food packs have already reached beneficiaries, while 432 Zakatul Fitr food packs will be distributed on March 27, 2025, three days before Eid Ul Fitr.
