Islamic Relief Ethiopia (IRE) has successfully completed its Qurbani Meat Distribution Program 2025, delivering essential food assistance to vulnerable families in Addis Ababa and Oromia.

Qurbani represents the sharing of raw meat as an act of worship among muslims across the globe that happens during the 10th day of Dulhijjah (12th month of hijri Calender) as the festivivity of Eidul-Adha Arafat starts.

The program provided much-needed nutritional support during the Qurban season, helping thousands of households observe the religious holiday with dignity.

Under this year’s distribution, approximately 5,400 households in Addis Ababa and 850 households in Oromia received Qurban meat. The entire operation was conducted with a total budget of around EUR 560,000 (ETB 83.9 million).

This latest initiative builds on the success of Islamic Relief’s earlier Ramadan Food Distribution Program 2025, which reached vulnerable communities across four regions of Ethiopia: Addis Ababa, Afar (Yangudi District), Oromia (Meiso District), and the Somali Region (Jigjiga and Hargele).

The Ramadan program, implemented with a budget of approximately EUR 452,000 (ETB 58 million), provided assistance to nearly 3,900 households through cash transfers, while over 530 food packs containing essential food items were distributed to families in need of in-kind support.

Through these seasonal programs, Islamic Relief continues to demonstrate its ongoing commitment to addressing food insecurity and supporting the most vulnerable segments of society across Ethiopia.
