The main aim of Seasonal Programs is to protect life and dignity of affected communities and to bring nutritional relief to poor and needy people who have no access to food.This is done through distributing food packets and parcels which are suitable for the local diet of the target communities.

Besides, a significant number of the people who receive our seasonal project support also benefit from our other endeavors, such as our emergency responses, livelihood support projects and orphan’s sponsorship interventions. Distributing food packets and parcels which are suitable for the local diet of the target communities.
During this year’s programme, we managed to distribute a total of 11,185 Ramadan food packs containing important food items and to reach 56,865 individuals from11,185 families.
We also secured funding to distribute Zakat ul Fitr food packs that helped Islamic Relief to support a total of 4,896 individuals residing in Ma’eso district who were displaced due to community conflict between Oromia and Somali regions.
The intervention was in Afar, Oromia and Somali regional states of Ethiopia and targeted widowed, pregnant and lactating mothers, orphan children, older people and people with disabilities. We also reached conflict, flood and drought affected Internally Displaced People (IDPs).
Likewise, in our Qurbani 2018 programme 12,244 Qurbani meat packs each
containing 8Kg of fresh meat were distributed to marginalised, drought, flooding and conflict affected communities in Afar, Oromia and Somali regions. The packs were delivered to 12, 244 families consisting of 67,709 family members. Goats and sheep are the main consumables during Eid ul Adha celebrations in our operational areas and the Qurbani programme distributed goats and sheep meat.
Aqeeqa is the Islamic tradition of the sacrifice of an animal on the occasion of a child’s birth. It is broadly practiced among Muslims and perceived to be a rewarding Sunnah to slaughter a sheep for the baby and distribute the meat to poor and destitute families. Accordingly, Islamic Relief Ethiopia, funded by other partners have distributed more than 554 meat packs to widowed mothers, orphan children and people displaced due to conflict. An estimated 3,372 people have benefited from these projects funded by different Islamic Relief Partner’s offices.
Eid Gifts is one of the projects that have been providing a magnificent support for orphan and vulnerable children. This year, a total of 554 orphans, poor and destitute children were able to receive clothes and shoes that helped them to make the Eid day a joyful one for them.
